UNLOCK THE BEAUTY OF THE GROSSE POINTES

…WITH THOMAS STEEN

Originally founded as a summer haven for the auto and industrial barons of turn of the century Detroit, the Grosse Pointe of today offers an unparalleled upscale lifestyle on the shores of picturesque Lake St. Clair.  Encompassing a total of 11 square miles, Grosse Pointe is made up of 5 municipalities – Grosse Pointe Park, the City of Grosse Pointe, Grosse Pointe Farms, Grosse Pointe Shores and Grosse Pointe Woods.  Each community is independently governed by its mayor and council, but is united by top-rated public, private and parochial schools, exceptional libraries, hospital and recreational services.
Those who are fortunate to call Grosse Pointe “home”, do so for the beautiful and detailed classic architecture of its homes, its tree lined streets, its truly county club-like waterfront parks (at no charge to residents and their guests), unequaled municipal services, and the quaint shops and gourmet restaurants and taverns in “the Village” and on “the Hill”.  Big city amenities such as Comerica Park, home to the Detroit Tigers, Ford Field - the Detroit Lions, Joe Louis Arena – the Red Wings, the Detroit Institute of Arts, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Michigan Opera Theatre, the Fox Theatre, Greektown, the casinos, and many, many restaurants and nightspots are a short 20 minute drive away.

Homes are found in varying architectural styles, sizes and price ranges, from charming bungalows and condominiums to grand estates, but all residents hold dear the distinctive sense of community pride living in the Grosse Pointes affords.  Grosse Pointe is a warm, vibrant, friendly town, where you will find strong parental support and volunteering in the schools, citizens involved in the renovation of the libraries and the new development in “the Village”, parents coaching their children in sports, and community concerts on the water.  Personal enrichment may be found in the garden clubs and artists’ council, historical society, or adult and youth theatres. Athletic and sporting facilities are numerous and include swimming pools, ice rinks, venues for tennis, golf, soccer, basketball, football, lacrosse, and horseback riding.

Grosse Pointe residents love the quiet, safe streets and can be found walking, running, and biking, season in and season out.  Shade is abundant because each of the Grosse Pointes holds the prestigious “Tree City USA” distinction.  Summer months can be spent picnicking, swimming, boating, fishing, or watching the sailing regattas from the docks of the waterfront parks.   Winter might bring walks along Lake Shore Drive or live theatre at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial. Even with all of these wonderful features, Grosse Pointe is a welcoming, safe, small town community that is easy to become a part of.  To try to best summarize the Grosse Pointes is not easy, but living here means living well.  The Grosse Pointes enjoy a richness of culture and education, of traditional values and solidity, and has done so for generations.
